In the future, Germany's gas storage facilities are to be 90 percent full by December each year. The German government wants to set corresponding minimum filling levels with a law on the national gas reserve. Meanwhile, the think tank Bruegel warns against national solo efforts, a "subsidy war" among EU states – and risks that could arise if Gazprom supplies increase again.

In the fight against high gas prices, the EU Commission is backing a subsidy and demand strategy. Member states and operators are to be obliged to achieve a minimum gas storage level by September 30 of each year. However, in the draft communication on energy prices, the authority also points the way to financial incentives. States are also to double biogas production by 2030.

Im Kampf gegen hohe Gaspreise setzt die EU-Kommission auf Fördern und Fordern. Mitgliedsstaaten und Betreiber sollen verpflichtet werden, bis zum 30. September jedes Jahres einen Mindestfüllstand der Gasspeicher zu erreichen. Im Entwurf für eine Mitteilung zu Energiepreisen weist die Behörde aber auch den Weg zu finanziellen Anreizen. Bis 2030 sollen die Staaten zudem die Biogaserzeugung verdoppeln.
