Die Europäische Union hat ihre Prioritäten für die COP28 vorgestellt. Im Fokus steht insbesondere die Vermeidung von Treibhausgasen. Dazu gehört auch ein globaler Phase-Out aller fossilen Energieträger – ein Ziel, welches die EU bei der letzten COP in Sharm el-Sheikh bereits angestrebt hatte, aber letztendlich nicht hat durchsetzen können.

So far, "forest certificates" have not had the best reputation in climate policy because they are an invitation to greenwashing. At the One Forest Summit in Gabon, experts and politicians made a new proposal: "nature certificates" and improved carbon credits should protect rainforests, fund climate action and reform private climate finance.
