G20: Olaf Scholz must demand the phase-out of fossil fuels

This week's G20 summit will be held against a backdrop of geopolitical upheavals. It ushers in a climate diplomacy marathon through to the end of the year. As Germany's representative, it falls to the Chancellor to push for ambitious results and make offers to Germany's partners in the Global South.

Climate summit: Africa calls for carbon price, fair financial system, renewables

At the first African climate summit, countries find a common line for the upcoming UN negotiations: a fair financial system, a global carbon tax, 300 MW of green electricity by 2030 and more aid for growth and development. Kenya was criticized for compliance and the idea of a fossil fuel tax.

CO2 emissions from transports to be counted

With the Greening Freight Package, the Commission is proposing a legal framework for standardized counting of CO2 emissions in the transport sector. The Commission does not want to make participation mandatory for transport service providers. There is opposition to this – from the industry, of all places.
