USA: Trump's government defends the fossil fuel industry in court.

Some US states have passed laws requiring the oil and gas industry to pay a share of the costs of climate damage – but the federal government is preventing implementation. This is shown in a new report on trends in climate litigation. In the future, the battle for the climate in the USA could increasingly be fought in court.

UNFCCC: Executive Director Simon Stiell set for second term.

Simon Stiell, head of the UN Climate Change Secretariat UNFCCC, is to remain in office for a further three years. The contract extension is to be announced in July. Stiell leads the UN agency amid financial concerns in times of growing tensions and shrinking budgets for climate and development.

Budget: Climate action investments from KTF will decrease in 2026.

The Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF) receives a lot of additional money from the special fund. Nevertheless, there will hardly be any more money available for climate investments in the coming years, partly because the gas storage levy is also to be paid from the fund in the future.

Transport emissions: German automaker association rejects criticism of 10-point plan.

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) considers the massive criticism of its 10-point plan to soften EU emissions standards to be unjustified. With a higher proportion of e-fuels and biofuels, the climate targets in the transport sector could still be achieved. However, it remains unclear where the needed quantities will come from.
