Ray Wong Toi-yeung has served as a policy and strategy adviser at Hong Kong Watch since February 2025. He brings extensive experience in political mobilization, human rights advocacy and strategic planning to the role. Wong is also the founder and chair of the association Freiheit für Hongkong e.V. and is active within the European diaspora as deputy secretary general of the European Hong Kong Diaspora Alliance.
Wong founded the political group “Hong Kong Indigenous” in 2015, which became one of the leading parties within the city’s pro-democracy movement. In 2016, he was imprisoned for his political activism. Facing a possible ten-year sentence, he fled Hong Kong in 2017 and was granted asylum in Germany the following year. He now lives and studies in Göttingen.
