Nora Sausmikat has headed the China Desk at the environmental and human rights organization Urgewald since 2019. Her work focuses on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and other China-related infrastructure investments, particularly in Asia. She collaborates with a broad network of NGOs from across Asia and Europe, and her analysis extends beyond the AIIB to China’s role in global governance institutions and human rights policy.
Sausmikat helped establish the China Program at Stiftung Asienhaus and developed an exchange program between European and Chinese NGOs. A habilitated sinologist, she brings 30 years of experience analyzing political reform processes in China, with a special emphasis on environmental and human rights movements.
