Nicolas Zippelius

As the China expert of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Zippelius shapes the CDU/CSU's foreign policy position towards China. He criticizes the former German government for a delayed China strategy with little parliamentary involvement and calls for a China competence center in the Chancellery. Instead of complete "decoupling", he advocates strategic de-risking with diversified supply chains and fair economic relations. Germany already has established sinologies and China competence centers, which he would like to bundle centrally. Zippelius learns and speaks Chinese, including through a scholarship in Taiwan. He has headed the CDU/CSU parliamentary group on economic cooperation and development since 2025. After completing his studies, he began his career in advertising and in the family business; in his private life, he lives in a vineyard in Baden.
