Max Zenglein

Zenglein has been economy, strategy and finance center leader at the Conference Board in Singapore since July 2025. His research focuses on economic systems, industrial policy, labor markets and the evolving dynamics of globalization and economic security. He works with research partners across Asia, including in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Before joining the Conference Board, he served as chief economist at the China think tank Merics and previously spent ten years in Shenzhen and Beijing as an economic analyst for the German Chamber of Commerce in China. Zenglein earned his PhD in political economy in 2015 with a focus on China. He studied at the University of New York in Buffalo, the Berlin School of Economics and Law, the University of Hong Kong and the University of Kassel.
