Wolfgang Ischinger is President of the Foundation Council of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) and chair of the MSC. Since 2008, the 79-year-old has shaped the world’s largest security policy conference like no other. He could open the conference himself for the last time in 2026. Under his leadership, the foundation has grown from two to more than 100 permanent employees. Ischinger began an exceptional diplomatic career in 1975, crowned by ambassadorships in Washington and London. The fact that the MSC was able to attract an international heavyweight to the conference in the form of former NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is also considered to be to his credit.
