Frank Dikötter is a Dutch historian and sinologist who specializes in the modern history of China. He received the prestigious BBC Samuel Johnson Prize for his book "Mao's Great Hunger". He worked for many years at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London and has been Chair of Humanities at the University of Hong Kong since 2006. After studying history and Russian in Geneva, Dikötter moved to SOAS in London for his doctorate, where he taught after completing his doctorate. From 2006, Dikötter taught at the University of Hong Kong. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, a think tank at Stanford University.
