The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung was one of the last German political foundations to effectively leave Russia in March 2024. This also means that Alexey Yusupov, head of the FES’s Russia program, will not be able to go to Russia for the time being. Born in Moscow, he is a proven expert on Russian domestic and foreign policy and an important interlocutor on the subject of Russia, at least for SPD foreign policy experts. He has also previously worked for the FES in Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Myanmar. The political scientist also runs a Russian-language Telegram channel, where he explains German politics, not least to exiles from Russia.
