Adis Ahmetovic

As foreign policy spokesperson for the SPD, Ahmetović warns against reducing dealings with China to competition or confrontation. He advocates a critical but constructive course that respects democracy and human rights. Germany's China policy should be geared more towards European interests and avoid conflicts, as other crises are already weighing on foreign policy. Ahmetović comes from a Bosnian refugee family whose deportation was once prevented by Matthias Miersch. He entered the Bundestag for Hanover in 2021 and became a colleague of Miersch's in the parliamentary group. He is chair of the Subcommittee on International Climate and Energy Policy and a deputy member of several Bundestag committees. Ahmetović studied political economy and German studies.
