Gas storage: Targets eased.

EU member states and the European Parliament have agreed in trilogue negotiations to extend the EU Gas Storage Regulation, while also easing some of its requirements. The winter storage target has been lowered, and the deal includes new rules addressing speculation in gas markets.

EUDR: Environment Committee calls for revisions.

At the initiative of the European People’s Party (EPP), the European Parliament’s Environment Committee is calling for revisions to the implementation of the EU regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR). The committee is urging the European Commission to introduce a “zero-risk” category for producer countries.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is inviting attendees to the Mattei Summit in Rome. The summit is intended to expand strategic cooperation with Africa. Meloni is receiving support from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

NGO contracts: Working group to monitor funding allocation.

Following months of pressure from conservatives in the European Parliament, civil society organizations are to come under increased scrutiny. A newly established working group will investigate the conditions under which NGOs receive funding from the European Commission.
