Spain: Conventional power plants and grid operators responsible for blackout.

Contrary to what many have suggested, the widespread blackout on the Iberian Peninsula was not caused by renewable energies. Instead, according to the government, an "inappropriate" reaction by the operators of conventional power plants and planning errors by the grid operator were responsible.

The amnesty law is said to have helped secure Pedro Sánchez’s reappointment in 2023 – at least, that is the view expressed in an opinion from the European Commission to the European Court of Justice (ECJ), which was leaked to Spanish media.
