The majority of global goods imports are split between the USA, EU and China. For the EU, China is in first place, followed by the USA, in terms of imports. Even China recorded an increase in imports compared to the previous year despite the coronavirus pandemic. Trade with the USA has also increased despite sanctions. Germany is still China's largest trading partner by far. While China benefits from the open markets in the EU and Germany, European companies are subject to restrictions and discrimination in China. The EU and China have therefore agreed on the EU-China Investment Agreement (CAI) to promote greater reciprocity.
