Huawei affair: Public prosecutor backs down on MP from Italy.

The Belgian public prosecutor's office is no longer requesting the waiver of immunity for five MEPs in the Huawei affair, but only for four. MEP Giusi Princi successfully defended herself against the accusation that she had attended an event with Huawei in Brussels.

Direct investments: Parliament in favor of stricter controls.

With new rules, the European Parliament wants to better protect security-relevant sectors such as media, raw materials and infrastructure from foreign investors. There are plans for mandatory review procedures and more intervention rights for the Commission. However, a Council draft indicates resistance: Several states want to significantly weaken the requirements.

Bureau of the EU Parliament adopts new Order of Merit.

An Order of Merit is created at EU level to mark the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. Up to 20 personalities per year can be awarded this medal. This was decided by the Bureau of the European Parliament.
