Venezuela: McAllister calls for tougher sanctions

The term of office of the elected Venezuelan President Edmundo González Urrutia was due to begin on Jan. 10. But González was cheated out of victory by the Maduro regime. David McAllister, head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, is calling for tougher sanctions.

Regulation: Beijing targets EU instrument

The Foreign Subsidies Regulation gives Brussels the power to launch investigations into subsidies. The EU regulatory authorities can impose fines, suspend tenders or prevent state takeovers altogether. Beijing now sees this as a trade barrier.
