On the morning of June 5, 1989, a Chinese man became a hero and an icon of the struggle for freedom against the oppression of the masses. Because he stood in front of a rolling column of tanks, the international community christened him Tank Man. Time magazine raised the unknown man to the illustrious circle of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Thanks in part to him, societies in other parts of the world found the courage to revolt against dictatorial rulers.
