The far-right camp, on the other hand, can once again look forward to gains, with the three groups together gaining 200 seats for the first time.

New Commission: Votes from ECR and Greens help to secure a majority

370 MEPs from the EPP, S D, Renew, ECR and Greens voted in favor of the new Commission. This gave the College 88 votes more than it needed for confirmation. No SPD MEP voted yes – in protest against EPP group leader Weber's "cuddling up" to far-right parties.

Ursula von der Leyen received 401 votes in her ballot for a second term as Commission President. Although the Greens are not part of the informal coalition, they voted in large numbers for the CDU politician – and thus probably decided the election.
