According to a joint study by the research institute Merics and the Rhodium Group, mergers and acquisitions by Chinese companies in the EU continue to decline. This is partly because of the Chinese state. Foreign acquisitions are no longer as desirable as they were five years ago. But EU countries, for their part, are also increasingly wary and call for closer scrutiny of deals. The political climate is doing its bit to scare off investors.

China has installed two-thirds of the world's public charging points for EVs in recent years. The country thus leads the global comparison. The central government, the provinces, and the regions subsidize the sector massively. However, while the expansion is progressing quickly on paper, there are problems in practice: the charging points are often defective and the operation is complicated.

German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer claims that a recently passed law will make Germany "the first country in the world to put self-driving vehicles on the road." By 2022, this should be achieved. In China, however, autonomous driving cars, without safety drivers and centralized control, have been on the road since late 2020. And the gap between developments in Germany and the People's Republic is likely to widen.
