Macron sees China as a possible mediator

The idea that Beijing could act as a mediator in Russia's war against Ukraine and use its influence on Moscow has apparently gained new momentum after the G20 summit in Indonesia: French leader Emmanuel Macron said in his closing press conference that he believed "China can play a mediating role in the coming months." The main aim is to prevent a resumption of a land offensive after the winter, Macron said in Bali. He will work to achieve this during a visit to China early next year, Macron said.
