Benjamin Creutzfeldt – tormented by Latin, fascinated by Mandarin

Benjamin Creutzfeldt is head of the Confucius Institute in Leipzig. His interest in Chinese art even led him to set up his own porcelain workshop in Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province. He would like to see more breadth in the debate about the institutes.

'The pace of the Chinese in Africa is breathtaking'

Confucius Institutes reopen in the US under new names

After pressure from multiple sides, the controversial Confucius Institutes began to close in the US in 2020. More than 100 of the language and cultural institutions officially ceased their work in recent years. Now, it seems, some of them are back – just with a new name and a new look.
