Egypt: Navy benefits from growing security partnership with EU

Suez Canal ISMAILIA, EGYPT - DECEMBER 28: A boat crosses the Suez Canal, one of the most critical human-made waterways, in Ismailia, Egypt on December 29, 2023. The Suez Canal remains important for both world trade and the Egyptian economy, even though 154 years have passed since it was put into service. The Suez Canal, which was opened on November 17, 1869, when Egypt was among the Ottoman lands, and is today located within the borders of Egypt, connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. The 193-kilometer-long canal, built by human hands, is among the most crowded water canals in the world.

The European Union is expanding its security partnership with Egypt. Steps are to be taken by the end of the year to firmly establish a security partnership.
