After election in Parliament: Council appoints Commission for five years

Following the confirmation of the Commission by the European Parliament on Wednesday, the Council has now officially appointed the Commission for five years. Contrary to what was reported in yesterday's edition, the Commission needed 345 votes on Wednesday to be elected. 370 MEPs voted yes, 282 voted no.

Outdoor smoking bans: Resolution in the European Parliament fails

A resolution in the European Parliament calling for a ban on outdoor smoking and vaping did not receive a majority. The Christian Democrats did not support the motion. On Tuesday, the Council will vote on a recommendation to the member states with similar content.
