How the EU can respond to Trump's tariffs

The EU has a range of instruments to respond to Trump's protectionist trade policy. But for them to be used, one thing has to work.

Donald Trump's new term as POTUS starts in two months. According to media reports, trade hardliner Robert Lighthizer will also play an important role in the new Trump cabinet. In addition, Trump's team has appointed Howard Lutnick as Secretary of Commerce with responsibility for the trade dossier. (You can find out more about Lutnick in today's Heads.) During the election campaign, Lutnick had spoken out in favor of financing tax relief through tariff increases, among other things.
