Combustion engine phase-out: SPD buckles – at least a little

The CDU/CSU wanted to completely overturn the ban on combustion engines, while the SPD wanted to stick to it. As a compromise, plug-in hybrids and electric cars with range extenders are now to be exempt. Whether the EU will follow this course remains to be seen.
