Triads, temples and the united front: China’s quiet influence in Taiwan

On both sides of the Taiwan Strait, there are actors who pursue rapprochement or even unification. The military threat narrative is insufficient to fully capture Taiwan’s vulnerabilities. Among the informal actors that can be leveraged are, in particular, segments of Hongmen associations.
