Brave economic leaders and a confident Li Qiang

Between the world's second and fourth largest economies, the main issue is business relations. That is why government consultations are traditionally followed by an economic forum. Premier Li turned it into an advertising show for his country.

EU strategy: Brussels presents de-risking plan

The EU Commission wants to reduce its dependence on the People's Republic and is presenting its first all-encompassing strategy for economic security. However, only Competition Commissioner Vestager is open about the fact that Beijing is the focus of these efforts. One instrument in particular is likely to run into strong headwind among the member states.

Scholz at consultations: direct dialog more important than ever

Chancellor Scholz and China's Premier Li appear particularly harmonious at the German-Chinese government consultations. Personal exchange and the joint fight against climate change are to become more important. Problems fall by the wayside, critical inquiries are even prohibited.

Change of pace at introductory consultations

The government consultations are becoming less harmonious than under Merkel, but establishing contacts again is all the more important. Meanwhile, Olaf Scholz is being inundated with demands from interest groups. The industry wants to improve business in China, while geostrategists long for an end to geopolitical vulnerability.

As part of his China trip, US Secretary of State Blinken also met with Chinese President and Party Leader Xi Jinping. While Xi appeared conciliatory, China's top diplomat Wang Yi remained uncompromising. Beijing intends to continue blocking all military-level contacts. Nevertheless, despite significant differences and various harsh accusations, the trip sends a constructive signal.

Blinken in China: They talk. For five and a half hours

Antony Blinken is in China. It is the first visit by a US Secretary of State in five years. The talks are frosty - but the fact that they happen at all is a success. Relations between China and the USA are strained; the most important thing is to prevent an escalation. The question now is whether Blinken will also meet Xi.

Stumbling blocks for the consultations

The Sino-German government consultations will be a difficult new beginning. Especially since the Chancellery, led by the SPD, and the Green-led Ministries for Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs have different interests when it comes to China.

EU considers dumping proceedings over EVs

The EU plans to impose tariffs to prevent dumping imports of EVs. With this move, it is blatantly targeting China. But the fundamental problem persists despite trade barriers: The Chinese industry is simply unbeatable when it comes to the price of all electrical products.
