Indian Niño: The reason for the extreme heat in 2023–2024

Part of the more pronounced warming observed in 2023 and 2024 has so far remained unexplained. Now, researchers at the University of Maryland are pointing to a new phenomenon in the Indian Ocean. Its impact is said to have been as significant as that of El Niño.
