EU climate target for 2040: 90 percent emissions reduction agreed in trilogue

EU negotiators from the Parliament, Council, and Commission have agreed on a new climate target in trilogue talks. By 2040, CO₂ emissions are to be reduced by 90 percent compared to 1990 levels.
