Power supply: EU Commission approves France’s capacity mechanism

The EU Commission has approved France’s capacity mechanism for a further ten years. The mechanism, which will apply from 2026, will receive annual funding of EUR two billion and is to be open to all projects.

Mit Plus- und Minuszeichen sind die Pole am neuen Energiegroßspeicher am 02.10.2014 am Fraunhofer Institut für Fabrikbetrieb und -automatisierung (IFF) in Magdeburg (Sachsen-Anhalt) gekennzeichnet. Mit einem Großversuch wurde am gleichen Tag das gesamte Fraunhofer-Forschungszentrum ausschließlich mit Strom aus der Batterie versorgt. Das Speichersystem auf Litium-Basis verfügt über eine Kapazität von 0,5 Megawattstunden und eine Leistung von einem Megawatt. Der Akkumulator ist in einem 26 Tonnen schweren Container untergebracht und transportfähig ausgelegt. Mit derartigen Anlagen sollen später Schwankungen in Stromnetzen stabilisiert werden.
