UN High Seas Treaty is also a success for climate action

The new UNCLOS agreement on the protection of the high seas also means progress in climate action: The flora and fauna in the ocean are to be better protected against warming and acidification, and emissions and damage from fishing are to be reduced. The ocean as a carbon sink can also benefit.

Nigeria: President between oil and climate action

The new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, must also deal with the consequences of climate change for Africa's most populous country. Nigeria is vulnerable to climate damage and ill-prepared for it. Tinubu decides on climate policy, but continues to finance the state from oil.
