Financial sector back in the party's grip

China is repositioning itself in financial regulation and changing its top staff members. This offers the possibility that China and the World Bank will come closer together in their recently strained relationship. However, this does not bode well for climate policy. For the new staff stands for a softening of the green credit guidelines.

'The EU regulation against state subsidies has flaws'

In December, the European Union passed a Foreign Subsidies Regulation. It is designed to prevent exorbitantly subsidized foreign companies – especially from China – from gaining a competitive advantage in the European single market. The planned China strategy is the wrong approach

Instead of focusing strictly and protectionistically on China, Germany needs an overall strategy for dealing with erratically acting autocracies. A comprehensive concept would finally create clarity for companies. In this way, companies would more likely show the behavior desired by the government when it comes to dealing with risks.
