For subliminal boasts like this, China’s net community has come up with a new catch-all term. “Versailles” or “playing Versailles” – Chinese 凡尔赛 fán’ěrsài – is the name given to such hidden boasts in a sighing costume, with which the speaker only pretends to call for sympathy, but actually trumpets his or her own privileged position.
