Renewed debate about handling foundations

A section of the EU-China Investment Agreement (CAI) on how to deal with foreign foundations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has caused renewed uncertainty. Reinhard Bütikofer (Greens), MEP and Chairman of the China delegation, warned that the paragraph stipulating the appointment of Chinese leaders to foreign foundations and NGOs operating in China would “de facto amount to CP control”, the newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported. He added, that, according to the report, “it’s a mystery to me how the German government and the European Commission want to approve such an agreement.”
