Imprisonment for doubting Number of Victims

Prominent Chinese blogger Qiu Ziming has been sentenced to eight months in prison for denigrating martyrs. Qiu had in February challenged the official death toll of Chinese soldiers killed in a border skirmish with Indian forces in June 2020. Chinese authorities had only belatedly acknowledged that four soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army had died in the clash. Initially, they had still denied Chinese victims.
