Biden takes Wechat and Tiktok off the Blacklist

The ban had remained pure theory, because now the US government is taking it back before it came into force: US President Joe Biden has withdrawn the sanctions against the communication apps Wechat and Tiktok. These had been imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump. However, the authorities will examine possible risks to “national security and the American people” by foreign apps all the more detailed, as the White House explained on Wednesday. The Department of Commerce is now to develop criteria by which threats to data protection can be identified.
