Airbus warns of Competition from China

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus expects growing competition from China. Aviation is increasingly influenced by digital technologies and the entry of new competitors into the market, Airbus CEO René Obermann told the Handelsblatt. Obermann mentioned the new Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac, which is currently developing the C919, an aircraft the size of Airbus’ best-selling A320. The C919 took off for the first time in 2017; test flights for certification are now underway. According to a report in the trade magazine Simple Flying, this could still take place in 2021. According to Handelsblatt, the engines are made by CFM, a joint venture between US company General Electric and French manufacturer Safran.
