China’s downed balloon leaves a lot of hot air

Shot down in the blue sky: The balloon’s journey ended near Myrtle Beach.
The balloon incident leaves communication between China and the USA disrupted for the time being. Regardless of all open questions, the US had all rights to shoot down the flying object; Accordingly, China is keeping it on the down-low. What appears to be a particularly insolent provocation could also be the result of a chain of minor mistakes.

The US Air Force may have shot down the Chinese observation balloon that has preoccupied the public in recent days. But the incident will define the relationship between the two superpowers for the foreseeable future. The fact that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has canceled a planned visit to China for the time being does not bode well for the development of dialogue between the two states in the short term.
