Biden in Asia: new economic cooperation against China

Joe Biden is about to make his first trip to Asia as president. The region is becoming increasingly important for the USA
Joe Biden will travel to Asia for the first time since he took office as US president. Despite the Ukraine war, the dispute with China remains an important element of US policy. Washington wants to prevent China from attacking the Western-dominated “rules-based order”. To its allies in the region, Washington wants to make new economic cooperation palatable.

Between May 20 and 24, Biden has several state visits scheduled during his Asia trip. First, he will visit allies South Korea and Japan. There, in addition to security issues, Biden is expected to flesh out his administration’s economic agenda for the Indo-Pacific region. Xi Jinping is likely to keep a close eye on the US president during this visit. Competition with China is a central focus of Biden’s visit to the region.
