After years of waiting: C919 nears completion

First C919 destined for delivery takes off for a test flight at Pudong Airport
The first passenger aircraft entirely developed in the People’s Republic of China nears its completion. However, delays in test flights and a far higher price than planned have set back the Chinese hope. Nevertheless, the plane will become a serious global competitor for Airbus and Boeing.

Last week, the C919 large civil aircraft developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) passed an important manned flight test. During the three-hour flight, all planned tasks were performed. The aircraft was “fully capable” and landed safely, state media wrote.
